Tawi Initiative Western Kenya

I can personally vouch for this local sustainability initiative near Lake Victoria, in Western Kenya. Its founder, Dennis is a dear friend of mine. Such initiatives show that a lasting transformation to sustainable practices happens best when there is no interference by large foreign aid agencies, but is nurtured by and under the full responsibility of the stakeholders.

Exciting grassroots projects at the Rainbow Center

3 April, 2012. Kisian, Kenya.
It has been more than 2 years since we left Kisian, the little village south-east of Kisumu where we built a "Community Excellence Center". We are back now and very excited about kickstarting some low-tech high-impact projects, network with other communities in the area, organize theater or art workshops, all while having an amazing time here. If you are near Kisumu, or know anyone who is - this is a great opportunity to experience enthusiasm at the very grass roots.

Flying to Kenya tonight

12 March 2012. Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Finally, plans materialize and we are flying one-way to Nairobi tonight. We're very much looking forward to seeing our friends again, helping the "Joy Valley" orphan home cum school in Kayole and learn a lot about hands-on local development. We don't have exact plans in Nairobi. All we know is a place to stay during our first days, with couchsurfers of course, and we'll take it from there.

We are going to Holland!

6. February. Istanbul, Turkey.
For practical reasons, we have decided to visit the Netherlands for two weeks; Kamiel's family is there, and some unfinished paperwork. Add the fact that Dutch is his native tongue, so he can use the thing on media and potential supporters of Charity Travel. Plus we might get a chance to chime in with protests against some radical new Dutch laws. We're planning to move on to Kenya around February 20.

Rainbow Community Excellence Center

Rainbow Community Excellence Center

Kisumu, Kenya. December 16th, 2009 - January 24th, 2010
In a small village near Kisumu, we have built an orphanage together with our Kenyan friends.

Charity Travel provided building materials and wages for the workers. Many local and international volunteers helped out. Thanks!
