MakeSense Berlin 2016

August 17, 2016. Berlin, Germany.
We, the founders of Charity Travel, are living in Berlin, in the neighbourhood Prenzlauer Berg, until September 11.
We hope you had a great summer. Some of what we did: Yeon worked on promoting her book.
In July, Kamiel visited the SenseCamp, an unconference for sustainability which had a special focus on the refugee crisis this year.

He found out about some brilliant initiatives that are going on in Berlin.

Berlin Summer

July 2, 2016. Berlin, Germany.
We have returned to Berlin at the end of May and will stay in this city for at least the month of July. We are looking for something meaningful to work on, where we can make a difference. Hiding within the current fast culture of commercial start-ups, there are wonderful collaborations and who knows we find one that is a good match for us. Perhaps we can even create a team for our tentative Latin America charitable travel project.
We wish all our followers a great second half of 2016 and let's continue our evolution toward a more equal world.

In solidarity against the horror

Nov 18. Utrecht/Lisbon, Netherlands/Portugal.
Charity Travel feels with the family and friends of all victims of the horrible attacks in Beirut and Paris and everywhere. We stand for global solidarity and are not afraid of Islamic fundamentalism, or in fact any other kind of fundamentalism. The outpour of solidarity in the wake of the Paris attacks stems us cautiously hopeful. We, all humans not poisoned by toxic ideologies, are thrown back on our essence: being kind to each other in our ephemeral moment on earth.

Autumn leaves. We stay in Berlin

2. October 2013. Berlin, Germany.
Yeon, Miru, and Kamiel are still in Berlin Kreuzberg. Anyone heading this way: welcome! Just drop us a line so we can plan your stay, as we tend to have many visitors through couchsurfing. The preparations for our transition village in Spain are going well. We are organizing through a Facebook Group. To those who are curious about this - don't hesitate to write us. We want to create a large group of a few hundred people, and then organically evolve into a dozen wonderful village groups. Here is a German documentary about the transition movement in Spain (from minute 15 in the video).

Berlin before winter

August 17, 2013. Berlin, Germany.
We have decided to live in Berlin for a while, pending Yeon's EU residency card and our preparation for life in Spain and in harmony. We also need a break from traveling and a place we can call home. Meanwhile, our daughter Miru is seven months old and still a wonderful baby - we feel blessed every day to have her around.

Community Website & Korean Book

News Update

November 20-December 7, 2010. Mellensee, Berlin
We are still here, in a beautiful snowy forest near Berlin.
Yeon is working on her Korean book on Charity Travel, Kamiel is working on a Community Website for independent volunteers (soon to be pre-launched).
We will travel overland to Korea soon. If you know of any charitable initiatives *kind of* on the way (in the Baltics, Russia, Georgia, Azerbeijan, Armenia, Mongolia) and we will consider it.
If you know any media that wants to write about the concept of independent volunteering: we have great resources and are always open for an interview;-

Until next time, happy changemaking,

Yeon and Kamiel

News Update

November 3 - November 19. Berlin, Mellensee.
As the weather turned drizzling dreary, we were working on chapters of the charity travel book, as well as Yeon's children illustration book. Met with betterplace.org but their workload is too high- together we decided a seperate website for independent volunteers is a good idea. We want to keep it simple and started working on a prototype with the help of a good friend and web specialist semanthis.de. It should combine these existing websites into a more powerful and social platforms, maintained by our community: independentvolunteer.org, volunteersouthamerica.org, and many more. For that foundation we visit Groningen briefly this weekend. More information about the platform and the foundation will follow soon.
